Luxembourg salary calculator: what does a gross salary leave in hand?
From gross to net in each of the three tax classes, worked out the way the tax administration’s own example does it — and what the June 2026 index did to it.
From gross to net, step by step
The tax administration publishes a worked example of a monthly net salary, and the calculator follows it step by step. From the gross salary come the employee’s social contributions: 8.5% for pension and 3.05% for health, both on pay up to five times the minimum wage. Then comes the tax withheld, read from the monthly withholding table and depending on the tax class, plus the employment-fund surcharge on it. The dependency contribution of 1.4% comes off pay above a quarter of the minimum wage. Three credits then go back on: for employees, for CO2, and, on lower salaries, for the minimum wage.
Gross to net in Luxembourg: a table
What a monthly gross salary leaves in hand from June 2026, in each tax class, with nothing registered on the tax card and no meal vouchers. For your own salary, use the calculator below.
| Gross a month | Class 1 | Class 1a | Class 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| €3,000 | €2,579.60 | €2,728.10 | €2,739.40 |

| €7,000 | €4,646.70 | €4,853.70 | €5,499.80 |
| €8,000 | €5,147.90 | €5,354.80 | €6,123.30 |

The June 2026 index
On 1 June 2026 salaries rose by 2.5% with the index. A salary of €5,000 a month before it became €5,125 after. In hand, that is €3,676.26 → €3,737.97 in class 1, €3,885.06 → €3,945.67 in class 1a and €4,155.56 → €4,245.17 in class 2. That is less than the €125 rise, because the tax scale does not move with the index — it changes only on 1 January — so part of the increase goes in tax and contributions. The calculator takes the salary before the index and shows both.
Meal vouchers
Many employers in Luxembourg give meal vouchers (chèques-repas), one per day worked, loaded on a meal card. The part of a voucher's value between €2.80 and €15 is free of tax and social contributions, so a €15 voucher of which you pay €2.80 costs you nothing in tax: the €2.80 comes off your pay and the whole €15 goes on the card. With 18 vouchers a month that is €50.40 less in the bank and €270 more on the card. A voucher worth more than €15 is allowed, but the part above €15 is taxed (circular L.I.R. n° 115/7 of 31 January 2025). The calculator takes your share as the €2.80 and the employer's as the rest; tick the box to see it for your salary.
What is checked, and what is not
The tax withheld is compared every week with the tax administration’s own calculator. The social contributions and the credits are the published rates and the law’s formulas, each dated; there is no official calculator to compare them with, and the page says so.
What it assumes: a resident employee, full time, the whole month, with nothing registered on the tax card, no benefits in kind, overtime, 13th month or bonus, and no cross-border rule. The temporary crédit d’impôt conjoncture of June to December 2026 is a bill, not yet law, and is not included.

An estimate from the published rules, not a tax assessment, not advice and not binding. Your own return, your payslip or the tax administration decide what you actually owe.
